10 Ways To Get Involved and Make a Difference
Become a Volunteer Tutor
For 90 minutes twice a week you can make a difference in a student’s life by becoming a volunteer tutor. Tutoring is held in a public facility and free training is provided. One does not need a teaching background or to be a full-time resident to volunteer.
Make a Financial Contribution
You can make an immediate impact by donating now. Big or small, your monetary gift means we can continue to help our students become more productive citizens because of improved literacy skills.
Employer Matching Gifts
Have you made a donation to LSIRC? Check with your employer to see if they will match your gift.
We’re always in need of notebooks, folders, pens, pencils, small eraser board with erase board markers, and other tutoring and office supplies. We gladly accept donations of supplies and office equipment. Gift cards that can be used for our tutors/students or as incentives are greatly appreciated. For our special events, we greatly appreciate silent auction gifts/raffle items.
Do you have a special skill or talent that would benefit our students? Photography, cooking, computer skills, computer repairs, and other talents — we would love to discuss opportunities for you to make a real difference in our students’ lives.
Want to strengthen the financial future of Literacy Services? If you are unable to make a significant contribution today, a charitable bequest may be the solution. It allows you to enjoy your lifestyle today while supporting Literacy Services tomorrow.
Host a Fundraiser
We’re always searching for friends to host a happy hour, donate a portion of retail sales, sponsor special events such as a private golf, tennis, bridge, fishing outing, or other fun and informal fundraising activity.

Event Committees + Support
We always need support to strengthen our Friends for Literacy, such as securing authors for our Love of Literacy and Reading Between the Wines events, plan for our Family Holiday Fest, and other events. These are wonderful opportunities to become a committee member and participate as much or as little as you desire while making a real difference in our organization.
